Aala grew up believing that travelling alone was something women simply did not do. At ten, she could only imagine the places she read about in books. She never imagined she would eventually build a life abroad.
From studying in Manchester to living in Egypt, Spain, Dubai, and Saudi Arabia, Aala gradually learned to make choices for herself, even when her family did not understand them. Her first solo experience in Spain also taught her how to handle loneliness, boredom, and unfamiliar surroundings on her own.
In this episode of TravelHER, Aala talks about breaking away from family expectations, learning to enjoy her own company, and making decisions before fear and overthinking take over. She also shares what it means to choose your own happiness when the people you love may not support your choices.

Aala started dreaming about travel as a child, inspired by books, maps, and stories about places she had never seen. Growing up in a conservative family, she never imagined that travelling alone could become part of her life.
Spain challenged her in unexpected ways. Living in a small village, speaking limited Spanish, and spending most of her time alone taught her how to structure her days, handle boredom, and become comfortable with her own company.
Her decision to move abroad for work brought new challenges. From Dubai to Saudi Arabia, Aala learned to question the assumptions she and others held about different countries, while discovering places that eventually felt like home.
We also talk about the difficult choices that can come with building a life your family does not understand. Aala shares why choosing your own happiness may sometimes mean risking disapproval, and why living a life that feels true to you matters in the long run.
